Waters Corporation Introduces Three New Mass Spectrometry Systems; ASMS Annual Conference is Launching Pad

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2003--Many of the world's preeminent mass spectrometrists and scientists are set to converge on Montreal for the 51st Annual Conference of Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics being held June 8 - 12, at the Palais de congres, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. At this year's conference, Waters Corporation is introducing several new mass spectrometry systems combining high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and tandem quadrupole or time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MS) to allow scientists to push forward the frontiers of drug discovery, metabolic profiling, and quantitative compound analysis.

The Waters Quattro Premier(TM) is the company's newest high-end quadrupole mass spectrometer and is intended for scientists doing high-sensitivity quantitative analyses in pharmaceutical, industrial, environmental, clinical and forensic laboratories. Important applications include adsorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) screening; regulated bioanalysis; food and beverage contaminant monitoring; environmental trace contaminant monitoring; and clinical therapeutic drug monitoring. See our detailed press release on this product located in the Press Room at www.waters.com.

The Waters LCT Premier(TM) is the company's newest high-end, benchtop, time-of-flight mass spectrometer and is designed for routine, automated exact mass measurements for the identification of compounds. Primary applications for the LCT Premier include natural product identification, ADME studies, impurity analysis, intact protein analysis, high throughput compound confirmation screening, and Open Access compound confirmation. See our detailed press release on this product located in the Press Room at www.waters.com.

The Waters(R) Metabonomics MS System, featuring Micromass(R) MS Technologies, is the industry's first end-to-end, single-vendor, exact mass LC/MS solution for metabonomic investigations. Toxicologists and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) scientists, as well as those involved in plant and environmental sciences, conduct metabolic studies to elucidate metabolic pathways that are impacted by drug or environmental exposure. See our detailed press release on this product located in the Press Room at www.waters.com.

The Waters ECP(TM) (Early Candidate Profiling) System featuring ProfileLynx(TM) Software and Micromass MS Technologies, is an LC/MS System analyzes the physico-chemical properties of compounds to allow scientists to rank compounds by not only their activity, but also their drug-like properties. This allows companies to focus their drug discovery efforts on compounds that have a better probability of success. See our detailed press release on this product located in the Press Room at www.waters.com.

Finally, Waters is introducing a new line of chemistries for nano-scale HPLC/MS. NanoEase(TM) Columns are ideal for nano scale protein and peptide separations for mass spectrometry. See our detailed press release on this product located in the Press Room at www.waters.com.

Scientific Program

Scientists from Waters Corporation have authored or co-authored a record setting 63 scientific presentations and will chair one workshop. The scientific presentations feature the combined capabilities of Waters technologies for high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) analyses.

Waters Again Chairing Popular LC/MS Interest Group Workshop

Michael Balogh of Waters is chairing a popular LC/MS interest group workshop. Each year the workshop draws a capacity audience of scientists eager to learn more about applications for LC/MS from scientists on the cutting-edge of the practice.

This year's workshop will be held Wednesday, June 11 from 12:15 - 1:30 p.m. in in Room 517C and is titled Discussion of Technologies with Imminent Practical Impact. The LC/MS and Related Topics interest group focuses on specific issues and enhancements in the field, which have an impact on LC/MS as a practice.

Hospitality Suite Open Nightly to ASMS Attendees and Guests

Waters hospitality suite will be located in Suite 513 B, C, D, and E at the convention center. The suite will be open to ASMS attendees and their guests during the following hours:

Monday and Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 7:30 -

9:00 p.m.

In the suite, Waters is exhibiting its full complement of systems-based solutions featuring Micromass MS Technologies. Alongside the LCT Premier, Quattro Premier, and Metabonomics MS Systems, Waters will exhibit systems and chemistries for regulated bioanalysis, autopurification, natural product analysis, protein characterization, food safety analysis, environmental analysis, and high throughput LC/MS.

Two New Partnerships Announced

Advion Biosciences(TM) (Ithaca, NY) and Ionalytics (Ottowa, Alberta, Canada) announced the signing of non-exclusive co-marketing and development agreements with Waters. Ionalytics Selectra(TM) technology is based on high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) technology and increases the detection limits of LC/MS systems using the Micromass MS Technologies Z-Spray ion source. Advion Bioscience's NanoMate 100 and ESI Chip(TM) technologies enhance the performance of Waters Micromass mass spectrometers using an electrospray ion source for small molecule, peptide mapping, proteomics, and metabolite profiling applications. For more information, www.advion.com.

About ASMS and Mass Spectrometry

The American Society of Mass Spectrometry's annual conference is one of the world's most important gatherings of pre-eminent mass spectrometrists and analytical scientists working with mass spectrometry. It is the venue for many product introductions and where scientists present data on innovative applications for mass spectrometry.

Once a highly-specialized analytical technique performed by expert mass spectrometrists on million-dollar instruments, mass spectrometry has become wildly popular among scientists thanks to enormous strides in technology. Combined with high performance liquid chromatography, MS has quickly become a useful tool on the laboratory bench for identifying compounds and doing concentration analyses of complex mixtures.

Waters Corporation entered the MS market with its acquisition of Micromass Limited of Manchester, England in 1997. The company markets its MS products under the Micromass MS Technologies brand and retains a center for MS research in Manchester, England.
